Highlights
ICSC-Goldman reports strong chain-store sales in the Oct. 17 week, up 0.2 percent from the prior week for a plus 2.8 percent year-on-year rate that's the strongest by far of the year and the strongest since August last year. Retail sales proved better-than-expected in September and, based on this report, may beat expectations in October as well. Redbook, which has reported strength in prior weeks, will post its report for the Oct. 17 week at 8:55 ET. (This report was initially delayed at the source).

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.  Why Investors Care
