Highlights
The current account gap narrowed to $98.8 billion in the second quarter vs. the first quarter's $104.5 billion (gap revised from $101.5 billion). The gap is 2.8 percent of GDP, down a tenth from the first quarter and the lowest percentage since 1991. A narrowing in the goods & services gap, reflecting weakened domestic demand, accounted for the second-quarter improvement.

Definition
The current account measures the United States' international trade balance in goods, services, and unilateral transfers on a quarterly basis. The levels of exports, imports and the current account indicate trends in foreign trade.
