Last week's blast of cold air in the East and South raised demand for fall and winter goods and lifted ICSC-Goldman's chain store sales index a very strong 1.3 percent. The on-year rate almost doubled, to plus 3.4 percent for the best reading since August. The report sees full month November sales rising a solid on-year 3.0 to 4.0 percent. Redbook is up at 8:55 ET.
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.
