A pre-holiday lull ahead of Black Friday made for 0.6 percent decline in store sales for the November 20 week. The on-year rate also slipped 0.6 percent to plus 2.8 percent. Despite the softness, ICSC-Goldman sees strength ahead for holiday sales, targeting a respectable plus three to four percent on-year rate. Redbook is up later this morning at 8:55 ET.
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.
