Highlights
Same-store chain sales fell 1.4 percent in the February 12th week, a drop reflecting what the report says were "mixed" conditions in the week but one however that isn't hurting the year-on-year comparison which rose two tenths to plus 2.7 percent. The four-week average for the year-on-year rate turned up three tenths to plus 2.4 percent to end four straight weeks of erosion. The report says the year-on-year rate offers "proof" that positive consumer fundamentals remain in place. ICSC-Goldman sees a solid year-on-year gain of plus 2.5 to 3.0 percent for February as a whole. The government will release the January retail sales report at 8:30 a.m. ET.
