Investor confidence, despite all the turbulence in Europe, has improved this month according to State Street whose institutional investor index is 89.9 vs August's revised 88.1. Still the reading is well below 100 to indicate demand for safety relative to risk. Confidence among European investors has improved as it has in Asia while confidence among North American investors has edged slightly lower. The report notes that, in contrast to sovereign concerns, corporate balance sheets remain in good shape which is a plus for equity investors.
