Highlights
Rising sales, at least slightly rising sales, is ICSC-Goldman's call for the October 6 week, up 0.2 percent for a year-on-year same-store sales rate of plus 2.8 percent which is slightly above trend for this report. Gas shortages hurt shoppers in Southern California while cold weather boosted seasonal demand in the Midwest, according to the report which is calling for steady year-on-year growth through the month. Redbook will post its results later this morning at 8:55 a.m. ET.

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales. Why Investors Care
