Consumers spending slowed just ahead of Christmas but after a strong prior week. ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales index rose 0.7 for the December 22 week, following a 4.3 percent jump for the prior week. Year-on-year, same-store sales advanced 3.2 percent for the latest period versus 3.5 percent the week before.

This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.
