Highlights
Retail sales picked up strongly last week according to ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales index which jumped 1.4 percent in the week. The year-on-year rate rose five tenths to plus 2.3 percent. The report cites special strength at grocery stores, apparel stores, and discounters. Redbook, which has been trending a bit higher than ICSC-Goldman, will post its results later this morning at 8:55 a.m. ET.

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.  Why Investors Care
