Highlights
Cooler weather, which boosts demand for back-to-school apparel, helped to lift retail sales in the August 3 week, according to ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales index which rose 0.3 percent. The year-on-year rate of plus 2.5 percent is up 3 tenths from the prior week for its best reading since mid-June. The report notes that 12 states, late in the reporting week, launched their annual state tax holidays which is another factor helping back-to-school sales.
