Store sales are soft based on ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales index which did rise 0.2 percent in the August 24 week but at a year-on-year pace of only plus 1.9 percent. The trend for this report is flat, pointing to little change for the ex-auto ex-gas reading of the government's August retail sales report. Redbook will post its results later this morning at 8:55 a.m. ET.
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.
