In the first indication on the economic effect of the ongoing standoff in Washington, ICSC-Goldman's same-store sales index slipped 0.1 percent with the year-on-year rate slipping to plus 1.8 percent from 2.1 percent. The report cites weakness across most segments. Redbook's weekly tally will be posted later this morning at 8:55 a.m. ET.
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.
