Highlights
Shopping picked up sharply in the December 21 week, according to ICSC-Goldman whose same-store sales index rose 1.4 percent to a year-on-year 2.7 percent which is the best pace so far of the holidays. For data through December 22, shoppers finished 83.5 percent of their shopping, just about in line with 84.0 percent this time last year. In more good news for retailers, the report estimates that 31 percent of consumers plan to shop today on Christmas Eve. Despite all the last-minute activity, trends in this report are flat so far compared to November. Redbook, which has also been trending flat, will be posted later this morning at 8:55 a.m. ET.

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.  Why Investors Care
