Unlike ICSC-Goldman which is at recovery lows, Redbook is reporting no effect from the government shutdown with its same-store sales reading little changed at plus 3.2 percent. Redbook, which makes no mention of the shutdown, cites cooling temperatures as a plus for seasonal sales. Nevertheless, Redbook is projecting a sizable drop for October as a whole which points to another month of weakness for the government's ex-auto ex-gas reading.

Redbook tracks week-to-week change, month-to-date change, and year-on-year change with the latter the most closely watched reading.
