Highlights
The weather improved in the February 22 week but not retail sales, at least according to ICSC-Goldman's sample where same-stores fell 0.6 percent vs the prior week. Year-on-year, sales are up only 1.4 percent. The 4-week average for the year-on-year rate is at plus 1.5 percent, unchanged against the month-ago comparison which points to flat sales for February as a whole. Redbook, which has also been reporting weak results, will be posted later this morning on the Econoday calendar at 8:55 a.m. ET.

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales.  Why Investors Care
