PriorPrior RevisedConsensusConsensus RangeActual
ADP employment169,000 165,000 200,000 180,000  to 239,000 201,000

Highlights
ADP estimates that private payrolls rose a moderate 201,000 in May which is right at the Econoday consensus for 200,000. For comparison, the consensus for private payroll growth in Friday's employment report is a bit higher, at 215,000 with the low estimate at 185,000. ADP sometimes does and sometimes does not correctly anticipate the employment report having last month signaled weakness in what turned out to be a respectable report for April.

Recent History Of This Indicator
The ADP Employment Report missed by a mile in April, predicting only 169,000 growth in private payrolls which came out at a very much stronger 213,000. Forecasters see ADP coming in at 200,000 for May, in line with what are no better than moderate expectations for Friday's employment report.

Definition
The ADP national employment report is computed from a subset of ADP records that represent approximately 400,000 U.S. business clients and approximately 23 million U.S. employees working in all private industrial sectors. ADP contracted with Moody’s Analytics to compute a monthly report that would ultimately help to predict monthly nonfarm payrolls from the Bureau of Labor Statistic's employment situation. The ADP report only covers private (excluding government) payrolls.  Why Investors Care

[Chart]
