Store Sales Y/Y change0.2 %0.7 %

Same-store sales were up 0.7 percent year-on-year in the February 2 week, picking up at last from the growth pace that had slowed down in the 3 prior weeks to the slowest rate since September. Month-to-date same store sales were up 0.3 percent from the previous month after four weeks of negative sub 3.00 percent readings, while year-on-year monthly sales were up 0.7 percent, the strongest pace since the first week of the year. The sales pick-up in the Redbook sample came too late to help January core retail sales, but may indicate more vigorous sales growth in February.

A weekly measure of comparable store sales at chain stores, discounters, and department stores. Redbook tracks week-to-week change, month-to-date change, and year-on-year change with the latter the most closely watched reading. The report offers early indications on ex-auto ex-gas retail sales.  Why Investors Care
