Same store sales were up 1.3 percent year-on-year in the April 1 week, resuming the brisker pace seen since mid-February except for the prior week's slackening to 0.6 percent growth. Month-to-date same store sales were down 0.7 percent versus the previous month, however, the fifth consecutive week of negative readings for this comparison. But year-on-year, monthly sales were up 1.1 percent, keeping up the 1.0 percent plus pace of recent weeks. Redbook's sample points to respectable strength in core retail sales ahead.
