Same store sales were up 2.2 percent year-on-year in the June 24 week, slowing down by 0.6 percentage points from the previous week's 2.8 percent annual growth pace, which was the strongest for the Redbook sample since January 2016. Month-to-date same store sales versus the previous month were up 0.6 percent, a 0.1 percentage point slowdown from the prior week. And full month same store sales cooled by 0.1 percentage points to a 2.4 percent year-on-year growth rate. Despite the slowdown registered in the week, retailers in Redbook's sample are still showing the best sales performance comparisons in 17 months in June following weakness May, pointing to strong ex-auto less-gas retail sales for the month.
