Store Sales Y/Y change4.3 %4.4 %

Same store sales growth continues to accelerate, with year-on-year sales up 4.4 percent in the September 2 week, the strongest gain in over two years. Month-to-date sales versus the prior month rose 0.3 percent, up for the second consecutive week after 7 weeks of minus readings, and year-on-year full month sales were up 4.4 percent, by far the best monthly gain in at least a year. The steadily accelerating year-on-year sales growth reported by retailers in Redbook's sample in the last 6 weeks points to a very strong ex-auto less gas retail sales report for August.

A weekly measure of comparable store sales at chain stores, discounters, and department stores. Redbook tracks week-to-week change, month-to-date change, and year-on-year change with the latter the most closely watched reading. The report offers early indications on ex-auto ex-gas retail sales.  Why Investors Care
