Highlights
ADP's estimate isn't going to rattle any nerves ahead of April employment, at 177,000 and right in line with expectations for what is expected to be solid payroll growth in Friday's report. ADP's prior three calls were for exceptional payrolls of roughly 250,000 and higher, and two of them were bull's eyes but not the most recent which was far too high for what proved to be only modest growth in March. There is little immediate reaction to today's results.

Recent History Of This Indicator
ADP's spectacularly accurate calls for standout strength in January and February payrolls was followed by a spectacularly inaccurate call for March. ADP's estimate for March private payrolls, at 263,000, was nearly three times over actual growth of 98,000. This report is back in the dog house and is unlikely to have much affect on expectations for the April employment report.

Definition
The ADP national employment report is computed from a subset of ADP records that represent approximately 400,000 U.S. business clients and approximately 23 million U.S. employees working in all private industrial sectors. ADP contracted with Moody’s Analytics to compute a monthly report that would ultimately help to predict monthly nonfarm payrolls from the Bureau of Labor Statistic's employment situation. The ADP report only covers private (excluding government) payrolls.  Why Investors Care

[Chart]
