PriorPrior RevisedConsensusConsensus RangeActual
ADP employment253,000 230,000 180,000 140,000  to 253,000 158,000

Highlights
ADP sees June private payrolls rising 158,000 which misses Econoday's ADP consensus of 180,000. Econoday's consensus for actual private payrolls in Friday's employment report is 164,000 which isn't likely to shift following ADP's results. Estimates this year from ADP have been hit and miss with a wild upside miss in May.

Recent History Of This Indicator
ADP once again proved wild in May, forecasting a much higher-than-expected 253,000 surge in private payrolls that turned out to be a much lower-than-expected gain of 147,000. The 106,000 difference between the estimate and actual result even exceeds ADP's 98,000 upward miss in March. Yet, to be fair, this report in the other 3 months of the year was spot on. The consensus for ADP's June call is 180,000.

Definition
The ADP national employment report is computed from a subset of ADP records that represent approximately 400,000 U.S. business clients and approximately 23 million U.S. employees working in all private industrial sectors. ADP contracted with Moody’s Analytics to compute a monthly report that would ultimately help to predict monthly nonfarm payrolls from the Bureau of Labor Statistic's employment situation. The ADP report only covers private (excluding government) payrolls.  Why Investors Care

[Chart]
The new ADP employment report is aimed at improving payroll forecasts by providing information in advance of the employment report.
