Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Index
Released On 8/24/2017 11:00:00 AM For Aug, 2017
Level10 16

The Kansas City Fed's manufacturing sample is reporting ideal conditions this month, at a composite score of 16 with new orders at 25 and backlog orders at 13. New export orders are also showing strength, moving into the plus column at 4. Production, at 22, and shipments at 23 are both sharply higher this month with employment steady at a very solid 14. Inventories are on the rise which, in the context of order strength, is a positive while gains in the workweek and slowing in delivery times offer further signs of strength. Input prices indicate substantial pressures while selling prices hint at emerging traction. Kansas City joins other regional reports showing significant strength this month for the factory sector, yet there is a caveat: this year's definitive data on the factory sector have not been living up to the strength of advance data.

The Kansas City Fed index offers a monthly assessment of change in the region's manufacturing sector. Positive readings indicate monthly growth and negative readings monthly contraction. Readings at zero indicate no change. The headline number is the composite index, an average of the production, new orders, employment, delivery time, and raw materials inventory indexes.  Why Investors Care
