President Trump has named Jerome Powell as his choice to head the Federal Reserve. Known as a policy moderate, Powell joined the Fed as governor in 2012 and, if confirmed by the Senate, would serve a 4-year term beginning February 3 when Janet Yellen's term expires. Yellen can remain on the board as a governor in a separate term that doesn't expire until 2024. President Obama first appointed Powell, who is a Republican, in 2011.
