Stocks mostly retreated thanks to disappointing earnings and a lack of offsetting positive economic data. The Dow added 8.81 points just prior to the close while the S&P slipped 0.56 point. Nasdaq lost 0.3 percent. West Texas crude was lower but remained above $57. The 2 year note was up 1 basis point to 1.62 percent while the 10 year note edged down 1 basis point to 2.31 percent. The US dollar was up against the yen, euro, Swiss franc and the Canadian and Australian dollars. It was virtually unchanged against the pound sterling.
