Market Reflections

January 22, 2018
Senate Democrats voted to keep the government open temporarily until February 8 and in return they are expected to get an up-or-down vote on DACA immigration. The national activity index is the day's economic news and it proved mixed in December with isolated strength in mining and utilities but softness in employment and manufacturing.

The Dow rose 0.6 percent to a new record at 26,214 while bonds and the dollar were little changed, ending at 2.66 percent for the 10-year Treasury yield and at 90.40 for the dollar index.
