Fats and Oils: Oilseed Crushings, Production, Consumption and Stocks

Soybeans crushed for crude oil was 5.09 million tons (170 million bushels) in June 2018, compared to 5.17 million tons (172 million bushels) in May 2018 and 4.45 million tons (148 million bushels) in June 2017. Crude oil produced was 1.94 billion pounds down 2 percent from May 2018 but up 12 percent from June 2017. Soybean once refined oil production at 1.44 billion pounds during June 2018 decreased 2 percent from May 2018 but increased 6 percent from June 2017.

Canola seeds crushed for crude oil was 147 thousand tons in June 2018, compared to 131 thousand tons in May 2018 and 167 thousand tons in June 2017. Canola crude oil produced was 130 million pounds up 13 percent from May 2018 but down 6 percent from June 2017. Canola once refined oil production at 124 million pounds during June 2018 was up 48 percent from May 2018 and up 1 percent from June 2017. Cottonseed once refined oil production at 47.3 million pounds during June 2018 was down 7 percent from May 2018 but up 2 percent from June 2017.

Edible tallow production was 82.0 million pounds during June 2018, down 8 percent from May 2018 but up 16 percent from June 2017. Inedible tallow production was 311 million pounds during June 2018, down 5 percent from May 2018 but up 4 percent from June 2017. Technical tallow production was 106 million pounds during June 2018, down 3 percent from May 2018 but up 35 percent from June 2017. Choice white grease production at 99.3 million pounds during June 2018 decreased 13 percent from May 2018 and decreased 16 percent from June 2017.
