Highlights Investor confidence fell very steeply in August, to 89.6 from 102.5 in July (revised from 101.1). A reading below 100 indicates demand for safety relative to risk. Weakness is concentrated in North America with Europe showing only moderate weakness in the month and Asia only slight weakness. The report attributes the month's move to safety to diminished growth expectations, the US downgrade, and continued sovereign troubles in Europe.
