Weekly same-store sales rose 1.3 percent in the March 3 week though the year-on-year rate slid sharply to plus 1.7 percent. ICSC-Goldman points to cross currents affecting the consumer with the improving economy a plus but high gas prices a negative. Redbook is up at 8:55 a.m. ET.

Definition
This weekly measure of comparable store sales at major retail chains, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers, is related to the general merchandise portion of retail sales. It accounts for roughly 10 percent of total retail sales. Why Investors Care
