Released on 5/15/07 For Mar 2007
Foreign Demand for Long-Term U.S. Securities
 Actual $67.6B
 Previous $ 58.1 B

Highlights
Net foreign purchases of long term U.S. securities rose to a solid $67.6 billion in March vs. February's $58.1 billion. Foreign purchases of U.S. Treasuries were especially strong in March as were once again purchases of corporate bonds. Purchases of agency bonds were solid as were foreign purchases in the stock market, a category that in the past has been flat. Remember March was a jumpy month of risk aversion for the financial markets, a factor that may have firmed demand for U.S. securities. The monthly net total of $67.6 billion is just a bit above the nation's trade deficit, a comparison often made with this data. Financial markets showed no reaction to the results which however are a positive for the dollar and all U.S. assets.
