Highlights
Held down by the job components of unemployment claims and the factory workweek, the index of leading economic indicators came in at what is a still respectable 0.3 percent gain. This follows unusually strong increases of 0.7 percent and 0.8 percent over the last 3 reports. Yet, as the report notes, the slowing in employment signals during March bears watching.

Consensus Outlook
March's call for the LEI is a moderate 0.3 percent gain which would follow a long run of unusual strength. Weakness from the stock market and the factory workweek will be likely negatives in the March report.

Definition
The index of leading economic indicators is a composite of 10 forward-looking components including building permits, new factory orders, and unemployment claims. The report attempts to predict general economic conditions six months out.  Why Investors Care
